Col.G is G. Thompson, a Philadelphia area composer and musician well known for his unusual guitar work and his humorous singing and song writing style.
From his roots in the Philly deep underground of Punk and Blues to his modern day use of cutting edge music technology Col.G has always been able to get a smile out of someone with his music.
The song "Mighty Time" ties together The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, which collapsed the levee system along the Mississippi and Arkansas Rivers which left more than a thousand dead and almost a million people homeless, and Hurricane Katrina which did the same 78 years later. The beginning and the end of the songs pays tribute to John Lee Hooker who was a victim of the Tupelo Flood and went on to become one of the worlds greatest blues musicians. The main part of the songs tell the story of a victim of Hurricane Katrina from his point of view trapped on his roof waiting for rescue.
Mighty Time
Wasn't that a mighty time
Wasn't that a mighty time
Hurricane Katrina.
Seeing helicopter flying by
People waving and shit
they aint stoppin.'
I just want a drink of water.
Wasn't that a mighty time
Wasn't that a mighty time
Louisiana
Waitin' for a glass of water
Been watchin' bodies be floatin by
Aint got nothin' to eat
That's alright
a lot of people worse off than I am
I know help's coming
A lot of good people in this great country
A lot of good people in this world
I'll be alright
I'll just sit on the roof
And play my harmonica
